The Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology has received a grant of $5 million from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for use over four years (2019-2022) to inventory the museum’s collections and transfer them from their current location in Bristol, RI to a newly-renovated facility in Providence (yet to be announced). This project will be improve collections care, enhance academic study, increase public accessibility, and facilitate greater engagement with Native American and other communities. The funds will support object documentation and photography, object assessment and conservation, and collections reorganization and rehousing, as well as a share of the physical move costs themselves.
