Biography

Lauren received her BFA in Painting from the University of Mississippi and is a graduate of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College. She received her MA in Museology from the University of Washington. Lauren is focused on decolonizing collections management practices. For her Master’s thesis, she collaborated with Filipinx and Filipinx American community members and the Burke Museum to develop and implement a collections review process for the Culture Department. The goal was to generate cultural context and reflect a community-driven approach to collections management and database information. At the Burke Museum, Lauren was part of a team that inventoried, rehoused, packed, moved, and unpacked 60,000 culture collection objects to a new facility. She is excited to be a part of the Transforming the Haffenreffer Museum Mellon Project, collaborate with community members, and find ways for collections to aid in cultural continuity.
