Biography

Kellie Bowers is the Associate Curator for Repatriation and Provenance at the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology. She received a BS in Anthropology at Florida State University in 2012. She then went on to earn an MA in Historical Archaeology from the University of Massachusetts Boston in 2015. 

Kellie’s professional work has centered on the return of Native American Ancestors and cultural items to Federally Recognized Tribes through NAGPRA (The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act). She is actively engaged with Tribes and other institutions implementing NAGPRA. Kellie is broadly interested in repatriation and other social justice issues surrounding cultural heritage. She has presented at national and regional conferences on topics that include implementing NAGPRA, indigenous collections care practices, and NAGPRA as human rights legislation.
