Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology
Descendant Communities
At the Haffenreffer Museum, we curate a global collection, which means the objects in the museum originate from communities in North America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Holding these belongings in our collections means that we have many responsibilities, but most importantly, we have a responsibility to be a good partner to the communities whose objects we care for.
A “Descendant Community” can be many things: a Tribal Nation, an organization representing a diasporic community, a government, an Indigenous Tribe without federal recognition, an artist’s family, and countless other types of people or groups of people who see their history at the Haffenreffer Museum.
